May 5, 2020– In the previous analysis, DerbySoft looked at the click and booking data of domestic markets versus international markets.
We continue to monitor the data, and it is needless to say that the trends tend to change daily during these uncertain times. For the last two weeks, DerbySoft has been seeing a significant increase in domestic travel intentions and an uplift in metasearch traffic.
The proportion of domestic vs international traveler traffic for the week of April 20th to April 26th is 70% to 30%, respectively. However, when we look at the bookings, the proportion is almost 50/50 for the same review last week.
The average lead time has not fluctuated much over these two weeks. The lead time for international travelers remains over 100 days. On the other hand, the domestic travel intentions show a decrease in the lead times for last week.
So what are the dates users are looking at to book on metasearch?
Domestic travel intentions are mostly concentrated one to two months from now for most of the locations for hotels. Northern Europe has surprised us with over 80% of domestic travelers searching for stays in May. Eastern Asia, Northern America and Western Europe residents also show about 50% of their travel intentions in the month of May, as well.
International travel intentions are spread throughout the year. We can see some high percentages of users looking for stays in July, August and October, depending on the location of the hotel.
